Excellent Calla Lilies For Wedding Bouquets

Your bridal bouquet is really like another accessory for your wedding gown. The distinctive look of calla lilies is perfect with certain types of wedding dresses. Their slender shape makes them ideal for slim gowns, especially those created from fabrics such as silk Carmeuse or a fluid double faced satin. It is a fabulous and stylish look to pair the slim shape of a calla lily bouquet with a stiletto style pair of drop Swarovski crystal bridal earrings. If you want to introduce some sparkle into your bouquet, think about adding some Swarovski crystals to the handle wrap to tie in with your bridal earrings.

white calla lilly wedding bouquet

Calla lilies make excellent single flower bouquets (as in one variety of flower, not one single bloom). They cluster very tightly at their stems, and then flare out to a beautiful full round bouquet. Another stunning option for callas is a dramatic arm bouquet tied with a big satin ribbon with long trailing streamers. This is an interesting alternative to the round bouquet, and it is also a nice way to showcase the long stems of the flowers. A nice thing about a bouquet that is nestled in the crook of your arm rather than held in out in front of you is that it does not obscure any of the details on your gown.

white calla lily bridal bouquet

If you choose to combine calla lilies with other flowers, look for ones that have a similar line. One gorgeous look is a round bouquet of callas that is bordered with a big ruffle of cybidium orchids. Orchids are one of the flowers most frequently paired with callas, as they have a complementary shape and also the same sense of sophistication and modern elegance. As textural accents within a grouping of calla lilies, you can try some of the spikier plants, such as bear grass, veronica, and grape hyacinth.

This Calla Lilies wedding bouquetis stunning.

Autumn wedding bouquets with calla lilly

Autumn is visually a glorious time of year when you can feast your eyes on the changing colours from green to amber, yellow, red and orange. The temperatures might be dropping and the days getting shorter, but this seems to help intensify those deep shades, as the foliage dies. If you are lucky enough to have a wedding during this picturesque time of year it would be a shame not to take advantage of these beautiful colours and use them to make a beautiful autumn wedding bouquet.

Do not try and use unseasonal flowers for your wedding bouquet, this will give you added expense and effort in trying to get a summery or spring feel to your wedding. The bouquet should incorporate lots of greens and deep browns and flowers that are readily available at this time of year. Trust your imagination and come up with some truly memorable combinations of colours for your autumn wedding bouquet. The calla lily bridal bouquet is the best gifted flower bouquet.

It is a nice idea to choose seasonal shades for your wedding, to create a stunning visual effect.

» Spring ¡V White, paler shade of pinks, yellow, blues, lilac, and greens

» Summer ¡VRich Vibrant colors such as yellow, orange, red, pink, gold, hazy purple and green

» Autumn - Shades of brown, yellow, gold, cream, russet (reddish-brown), burnt orange and red.

» Winter - Forest green, strong dark red, russet, orange, gold, and snow white or ultra modern like silver and ice blue.

The Victorian influence is also becoming more popular. Flowers with inert meanings and romantic, soft colored blooms are also becoming a rage.

Autumn Weddings bouquets from Calla Lilly

calla lilly autumn wedding bouquet

Aren't Autumn weddings are such a festive mix of bright fall colors? Deep orange, cool greens, creamy ivory, burgandy and plum are so delicious when combined in the fantastic bouquets you see below!

The bouquet below is a traditional round bouquet with orange calla lilies, roses, orange spray roses, ageratum and surrounded with galax leaves and red myrtle.

This elegant clutch is mostly made of orange miniature calla lilies and Oasiana roses. There is a touch of green viburnum and (surprisingly) a dozen stems of pink spray roses.

Calla Lilies Bouquet: Beautiful Large White Calla Lilies, Simple And Elegant with Complimentary Greens.Calla lilly wedding bouquets

Many brides are adding a touch of color to their bouquets by choosing from a number of brightly colored calla lilies that range from bright yellow to deep burgundy. For an autumn wedding, combine dark yellow calla lilies with orange-hued roses, or make bouquet from golden orange lilies tied together with raffia. For a romantic effect, make a bouquet from 12” long wine colored stems. A bouquet made of dark purple calla lilies is perfect for a winter wedding, especially when combined with dark pink mini calla lilies. To add a touch of whimsy, bundle together white calla lilies and add a ring of grape hyacinth or dark pink roses to accent the white lilies. For a spring wedding, bundle together two colors of yellow calla lilies, with the darker lilies (such as gold rush or millennium gold lilies) in the center and the lighter lilies (such as lemon chiffon lilies) circling the darker lilies. Alternatively, combine white mini calla lilies with calla lilies of a different shade, such as amethyst (a beautiful shade of purple) or cherry chiffon (a bubble-gum pink) for a colorful touch. No matter which option you choose, you are sure to have a beautifully elegant bouquet that matches your unique style!

Calla Lily and Gerbera wedding bouquet

calla lilly

Calla Lily
Also known as the arum lily, this trumpet-shaped blossom originated in Africa and symbolized "magnificent beauty" to the Victorians. Two types are commonly available: one with a large head and a long, smooth stem, suitable for tall arrangements or presentation bouquets; and a miniature version ideal for nosegays and boutonnieres.

Gerbera
This graphic flower is so flawless in its form that it almost doesn't look real. Grown in the hottest climates of Asia and Africa, the gerbera is a year-round gem that comes in a crayon-box range of colors -- nearly 350 intense shades are available, including bright orange, pink, red, yellow, and burgundy.

Top Wedding Color Combo Tips

calla lilly bouquet Without a doubt, color will set the tone of your wedding, whether it's a bright and bold summer soiree or a romantic winter wedding. So what color palette will you choose? With such a big style decision, making this choice can be harder than you might think. Luckily, we can help -- here are the answers to your biggest color-picking questions.

Q. We love our black and white color palette and want to extend it to our cake. Are there any other colors we should or shouldn't use?

A: Lighter shades of pink, silver, and baby blue look gorgeous in fondant. The effect is classy and understated. Include a single, brightly colored bloom on an all-white cake for a pop of color. When choosing darker shades, such as black or red, be sure to use them sparingly as accents. This can be done by adding a series of black dots or red sugar flowers to white icing. Remember: The goal of any cake is not only to look beautiful, but be tasty too.

Q. My colors are brown and sage. I don't think that brown bridesmaid dresses will clash with black tuxes, but everyone else says it will look bad. Is it okay to mix black and brown?

A: Despite the ongoing battle over black and brown combos, there's nothing wrong with having brown bridesmaid dresses and black tuxes. The combo can actually look elegant and sophisticated. Put the guys in black tuxes with sage ties and vests; then coordinate the bridesmaids in brown dresses with a sage sash. Or add metallic accents: Pair black tuxes with gold or champagne-colored vests and ties. The bridesmaids can wear gold shoes and accessories. The key is tying the looks together.

Q. I'm planning a summer wedding and am at a loss for a color combo. I'm leaning toward brighter colors instead of pastels. Do you have any ideas for June?

A: Summer is a great time to get married because almost any color palette will work. Rather than pastels, have a little fun with an uber-bright combination. Mixing teal with bright pink will definitely pop. You can tone it down for the ceremony by putting the bridesmaids in light pink dresses with fuchsia bouquets hand-tied with teal ribbon. At the reception, go all out with teal linens and use vibrant hues for your cake design. A yellow and orange palette is another bold choice. The key here is to go with a brighter yellow and a deeper orange to avoid a carnival-like look. Try flame-colored calla lilies for bouquets and boutonnieres and neutral tablecloths with burnt orange runners.

Q. I love bright coral colors and brown mixed together, but I'm getting married in the spring. Is brown too dark for the season?

A: Absolutely not! The great thing about choosing a color palette is that you can vary the shades. For a spring wedding, stick with a less intense brown -- think golden versus chocolate and keep the darker color to a minimum. The coral accents will also help brighten up everything. Mix lush white blooms with cool corals and chocolate cosmos for depth. Dress your maids in coral dresses with a brown sash. Opt for neutral linens with a coral runner and use branch-y centerpieces and lots of candlelight.

calla wedding bouquets Q. I want a winter wedding, but I hate the color red. Everyone seems to think that if I don't use some kind of red, my color palette will be boring. What other colors will work?

A: A lot of couples automatically feel that they're stuck with some combination of white, red, and black just because they're getting married in the winter months near the holiday season. Don't let yourself get pushed into a palette that doesn't suit you; there are lots of other choices. A great combination is white, silver, and ice blue with crystal accents. These subtle yet effective colors fit perfectly with the season and allow you to create lots of texture. Try ice blue and white tablecloths with silver chargers. Centerpieces of fresh birch branches or curly willows look stunning with hanging tea lights. Have fun with your cake by requesting tinted ice blue fondant or sparkle-dusted white fondant decorated with an edible snowflake motif.

Q. Our church features gold, burgundy, and other rich colors, but our reception venue is pink, green, and white. What colors can I use that would look good in both?

A: Your bridal party attire can tie your two venues together. Dress them in a color that will complement both sites; in this case, consider a lighter shade of gold. Choose classic black tuxes with gold ties for the men and lighter gold dresses for the women. Complete the look with white bouquets and boutonnieres (neutral tones match anything, so don't shy away from them). When decorating the reception venue, highlight pink and green shades in your linens, menu cards, and centerpieces. Or stick with a white and gold palette, which goes with everything and looks elegant regardless of the setting.

Q. Is there any way to use navy and light pink without looking like a New England yacht club? We want the vibe to be stylish and fun without being too stuffy.

A: Choose a deep navy and incorporate it into the bridesmaid dresses and tablecloths. Include pink by way of ribbon detailing for the invitations, cake, and favors. For the flowers, opt for pastel pink blooms and bright white hydrangeas or calla lilies. For the guys, skip the khaki pants and blue blazers, which scream yacht club, and instead consider navy suits with white dress shirts and blue-striped ties.

Q. I'm really interested in using a light gray color for my wedding. I'm concerned about choosing the right flowers to keep it from looking boring. Any suggestions?

A: Gray is one of the hottest hues in weddings right now, not to mention it blends well with a number of different colors -- pale pink, aqua blue, and butter yellow. While the safe choice for flowers is a combination of white blooms, such as hydrangeas, roses, or calla lilies, take a risk with brighter accent colors. You could also team cool gray bridesmaid dresses with a vibrant bouquet of yellow garden roses. Ask the guys to wear white-, yellow-, and gray-striped ties with a yellow rose on their lapel. At the reception, top tables with creamy yellow rose centerpieces accented with dusty miller for a soft touch of gray.

Building a Beautiful Calla Lily Wedding Bouquet

calla lilly bouquets For a bouquet that's both simple and elegant, use floral tape to tie together the stems of 10 to 12 calla lilies, about 6 inches below the bloom.

Once secured, using a wide satin ribbon that matches one of your wedding colors, wrap the stems to cover the tape, and finish it off with a simple "shoestring" bow. With this simple hand-tied posey starring the most sophisticated wedding flower, your stroll down the aisle will exude understated elegance.

But perhaps you'd like a little more color in your floral arrangements. In that case, consider the fiery mini calla. Slightly shorter than its willowy cousin, the mini calla offers a tremendous range of colors and amazing versatility. Depending on the season, you can find mini callas in fire engine red, flamingo pink, shocking yellow, sultry violet, and many other hues.

How To Make A Calla Lily Bouquet

The Finished Calla Lily Bouquet

You will need:

  • 5 Calla Lilies
  • 11 Frangipanis
  • 25 Large Leaves
  • 9 to 11 Frangipani Leaves
  • 18 and 22 gauge wire
  • Stem tape
  • White Ribbon

Step 1: Wire and Tape the Calla Lilies...

Wire the calla lilies by wiring the 18 gauge wire around the top of the stem.

(You need to use 18 gauge wire because the calla lilies are very heavy and they need good support)...

Then stem tape over the wire and the stem...

Step 2: Wire and Tape the Frangipanis...

Step 3: Wire and Tape the Leaves...

Wire and tape the leaves using 18 gauge wire. Like before, we use the thicker wire to help add stability, so the bouquet will hold it's shape more...

Step 4: Make ribbon loops...

Make some ribbon loops, and wire and tape them...

Step 5: Make a tail for the bouquet...

To start the teardrop bouquet, the first thing to do is to make a tail.

To do this, place a Frangipani and a ribbon loop on a leaf, and then tape 1/2 half way down the stem...

Step 6: Prepare the guide wire...

Next we need the guide wire. The guide wire helps to make the handle.

The handle for a teardrop needs to be on the back, but towards the middle of the bouquet. The guide wire helps to make sure it's in the right position.

To make the guide wire, take one of the large leaves, and cut the wire half way down the wire. Attach it to the tail wire.

Tape from the top of the leaf to the start of the tail wires...

It should look like this...

Step 7: Arrange the leaves...

Now stagger the leaves up from the tail leaf, into a fan shape. Place three leaves on either side of the tail. Use a small piece of stem tape to hold the leaves in place...

Step 8: Add the flowers

Step 9: Finish the bouquet

10 New Winter Wedding Ideas

Snowflakes and pinecones are tried-and-true winter wedding motifs, but don't feel bound to these seasonal standbys. Here are 10 ways to reinvent your winter wedding.
1. Wedding Colors Reds and greens certainly reflect the season, but overdo this color combo, and your wedding may seem more holiday-oriented than you intended.

cali lilly wedding bouquet What's Hot Now: Consider a less-is-more approach to your color palette: Silver and white with crystal accents can add some serious glamour to your winter wedding. For your ceremony, try a white velvet aisle runner trimmed with white satin ribbon, or decorate the altar with a crystal curtain backdrop adorned with hanging strands of elegant white phalaenopsis orchids. If you're exchanging vows outdoors, get your guests in on creating the ambience by giving out clear umbrellas to friends and family members as they arrive.

2. The Flowers Red roses, calla lilies, and amaryllis are decidedly winter wedding flowers, but if you step outside the flower box, and you'll find a variety of options for winter blooms.

winter wedding bouquet What's Hot Now: Consider fuller flowers, such as white hydrangeas and soft ranunculuses. White boutonnieres can be handsome when they're accented with greenery, but they also look great with a simple white ribbon. Add sparkle to your bouquet by wrapping the stems in ribbon embellished with crystals.

3. Invitations Since winter weddings are usually held indoors (it's an ideal time for ballroom receptions), they often call for a more formal invitations.

What's Hot Now: A black-tie event is nicely conveyed by heavy cardstock and a navy blue, chocolate-brown, or even eggplant font with hand calligraphy. For a fresh way to achieve a formal tone for your winter wedding, use thick, frosted Plexiglas invitations in white scripted ink. Send the sturdy invites out to all your guests tucked into silver envelope liners.

4. Centerpieces Go beyond glowing candles to add both warmth and romance to your reception site.

What's Hot Now: If you want to heighten the drama, bring in the icy outdoors with ice-carved vases on your reception tables. Have your florist fill the vases with tall winter-white branches and hanging crystals to reflect the light from the tables. Surround the centerpieces with votive candles, and top your tables with white dupioni table linens and frosted glass china.

5. Escort Cards Miniature sleighs and holly motifs stamped onto your escort cards would spell out the season pretty clearly, but they might not dazzle your guests.

What's Hot Now: Leave everyone awestruck as they retrieve their escort cards by making the entire table sparkle. Have the cards hand-calligraphed in silver ink and attach them to individual crystals with a ribbon. Hang each from an oversized crystal candelabra centerpiece for a new take on the popular escort card tree.

6. The Music A classical pianist playing during dinner is a sure way to create an elegant ambience, but consider a more unexpected accompaniment.

What's Hot Now: For a twist on the tunes, consider hiring an a capella quartet to sing background music at your reception. Have the group sing your favorite jazz and pop songs to set a welcoming and festive tone for the evening. If you're into a more classical sound, hire a cellist and ask that Vivaldi's "Winter" be included in the repertoire.

7. Cocktail Hour A winter cocktail hour calls for warm, comforting drinks. You really can't go wrong with hot chocolate and warm apple cider, but it's your wedding -- why not take every opportunity (drinks included) to add an element of surprise?

What's Hot Now: Serve up white hot chocolate in small espresso cups and eggnog in small punch glasses for your guests as they arrive. At the bar, offer saketinis (Japanese rice wine and sweet-flavored vodka) in glasses rimmed with sugar crystals.

8. The Cake A wedding cake trimmed in red or green ribbon or topped with roses looks pretty, but bakers who are willing to push the fondant envelope can reflect the winter in totally creative ways.

What's Hot Now: Play up the season with a white, vintage-style cake, dusted with edible silver powder. For accents, have your baker add a white sugar ribbon and crystal drops cascading down one side of the cake.

9. Favors Food wedding favors are always a hit, but if cookies or truffles seem passe, try new treat ideas to send your guests home satisfied.

What's Hot Now: Give out small packages of chocolate-covered cranberries or roasted chestnuts. An over-the-top idea that will undoubtedly impress: Have your caterer set up a hot chocolate and churros station to top off the evening.

10. Honeymoons While many couples flee the blustery weather for warmer (and sandier) locales for their honeymoon, a winter wedding can segue perfectly into a snowy escape.

What's Hot Now: Embrace the season and rent a cozy log cabin for a week in Lake Placid, or join the jet-setters at a luxurious hotel in Aspen for some serious skiing, wining, dining, and snuggling.
